Learn Thai in Kuala Lumpur: A Language, a Culture, a New Connection

A journey into Thailand can begin long before you board a plane. It can start with a greeting, learning to introduce yourself or recognising your first word in Thai script.
For those drawn to Thailand’s food, films, music and everyday life, learning Thai offers a way to turn an interest into a closer connection. At Hibiscus Academy, our Basic Thai A1.1 Foundation Course (Part 1) gives beginners a practical place to start.
A Small Conversation Can Open a Door
Ordering something you enjoy, asking a price or introducing yourself may seem like modest achievements. Yet these are the moments when a language becomes part of your life.
Learning Thai allows you to participate more actively: to ask a simple question, understand a familiar phrase and respond with growing confidence. Whether your interest comes from travel, friendships or cultural curiosity, each new expression gives you another way to connect.
If you are planning a New Year or Lunar New Year holiday in Thailand, the course also offers an opportunity to begin preparing before your trip.
Discover the Sound and Shape of Thai
There is cultural interest in the details of a language: how a greeting is spoken, how politeness is expressed and how sounds are represented in writing.
Thai’s tones and script may initially feel unfamiliar. Learning them gradually gives that unfamiliarity a structure. You begin to notice distinctions in sound, recognise written forms and appreciate the relationship between pronunciation and meaning.
Our course introduces speaking alongside basic reading and writing, helping learners build a foundation that they can continue developing beyond their first term.
Practical Thai, Step by Step
The course covers greetings, self-introduction, numbers, currency and telephone numbers. Students also practise simple phone conversations, making appointments and shopping for clothes, including colours, quantities and selected classifiers.
Thai writing lessons introduce Thai numerals, selected middle-class consonants, vowels, tone marks, final consonants and the spelling of familiar words and phrases.
The aim is to help you use what you learn in simple, predictable situations while building a foundation towards CEFR A1.
